"We Can Win the Premier League"

In an interview in today's Observer West Ham's Icelandic owner Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson talks about his plans for the club.

The interview starts on a surreal note with Gudmundsson asking us to 'think of Eggert as the Coca-Cola sign!'. Which I can only assume is an indiscreet insight into plans to monetise Eggert's shiny forehead through advertising.

However as the interview continues it is clear that Gudmunsoon and Eggy are singing from the same hymn sheet. Like Magnusson the Icelandic banker believes West Ham should be aiming for the top,

"I believe we can become one of the top English clubs, and in Europe, again. We want Champions League football and believe we can win the Premier League in time. Why not? Of course we do not think it will happen tomorrow, it will take some years. But definitely we are heading there. And I think we now have all that's needed for that."

Gudmundsson revealed that 'there is also a good response from the local council,' to move to a ground close to the present one.

Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson, the owner of West Ham, has told Observer Sport that a major reason why the club will be successful is because he and chairman Eggert Magnusson 'feel almost semi-English.'
