PFA Supports West Ham Stance On Newton

PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor has expressed his satisfaction that West Ham United are standing by Shaun Newton.

"I'm really pleased the club have been seen to support him. All being well, he will be back before Christmas, but this is a very trying time for him. This is a lad who has had an exemplary record.

It's very unfortunate for the lad, while it is taken for recreational purposes, it is performance enhancing. There's really no mitigating circumstances now, if there's a positive test it's a minimum six months."
