Reading 6 West Ham 0

West Ham started the game with Bowyer back on the right wing, Benayoun on the left, Dailly at right back and Zamora and Harewood up front. But to be honest Curbishley would have done better to field the West Ham Ladies squad.

West Ham had the best opportunity in the first ten minutes when Bowyer had time and space and should have scored but his weak left footed shot was easily saved. However that was the highlight for West Ham as the players then decided to take a nice New Year's Day stroll around the park and watch Reading play some football.

Reading's first goal came in the 12th minute when Brynjar Gunnarsson, unmarked six yards out, headed home a Nicky Shorey free-kick. Two minutes later Steven Hunt, again unmarked, headed Reading's second goal from a Sidwell cross.

In the 20th minute Bowyer was replaced by Shaun Newton after Bowyer suffered a shoulder injury.

In the 29th minute Ferdinand decided that Reading weren't having it easy enough and headed the ball into his own net from a Nickey Shorey cross. In the 36th minute Reading got their fourth goal of the half. The ball was crossed by James Harper and Kevin Doyle slotted home from six-yards.

In the second half Gabbidon was moved to left back. Harewood was taken off and Spector was brought on but the second half was still won by Reading with two goals from Lita and Doyle.

Championship football here we come.
