No West Ham Player of the Year

A campaign that seems to have gathered pace on various on-line West Ham forums has been picked up by today's Sun. A petition started by West Ham season ticket holder Joe Chapman calls for the club to cancel this season's Player of the Year Award. Another suggestion that has been raised on the West Ham forums is that the award should go to Dean Ashton, who of course has been unable to make an appearance for the club this season.

The Sun quotes supporter Joe Chapman as saying,

"They're disgusting and the whole idea of voting for one being the best is a joke. The message is undeniably clear — they are not fit to wear the shirt.

All season we have been treated to disgraceful display after disgraceful display from players that simply don't seem to care other than where to go as soon as they're off the pitch. We've had players mocking the fans when they score for daring to criticise sub-standard performances. We've had cliques dividing the dressing room and causing friction and we've had a total lack of effort and commitment on the pitch.

All of these things just go to show why so many feel there should be no Hammer of the Year. It should go to the fans that pay to watch them every week."

Unfortunately the paper does not have an on-line link to the petition but I'm sure it will be available to sign outside the Boleyn on match days.
