Parker in Talks With Man City
Sky Sports News are reporting that Scott Parker is close to agreeing terms with Man City and his transfer will be completed within 48 hours. The rumours suggest that Parker will be sold for £12 million.
The Guardian are also now reporting on this,
"A £12m deal for Parker was close to being finalised last night and if, as expected, the former Chelsea player agrees personal terms, it will take Mark Hughes's spending to more than £100m since he was appointed manager seven months ago."
The sale of Parker could obviously have a big effect on the desire of Upson and Bellamy to stay at West Ham. Not to mention Green and Zola.
The board will obviously say that Zola agreed the deal. However Zola did not attend yesterday's post match conference and Clarke, in his place said,
"I would hope and expect them (West Ham's top players) to still be here this time next week."
I think that clearly states what the management team's position has been on the sale of players.
Whether you think Parker is worth £12 million doesn't really come into it. It is extremely unlikely that a penny of that money is going to be reinvested in the squad by the current owners.
I also think this could be an extremely bad move for Parker. City will no doubt bring in another manager and spend big in the summer. If Parker moves I think he may find himself next season in the same position he found himself at Chelsea - playing reserve team football.
Although Sky are now reporting that Parker's personal terms "will substantially improve his current deal of £70,000 per week should the move be pushed through."

The 12 million fee has everything to do with it,despite it being terrible from a supporter point of view to lose Parker. If the club is in danger of going into administration ,and urgently needs to raise cash to avoid being forced to take a 9 point deduction, then we all may have to take this and one or two other deals on the chin. Unfortunately WHU is simply not in a position financially to pass up this type of fee.
But I thought the owners said yesterday that there was no danger of that happening.
Besides if we have to sell Upson and Bellamy (I assume they are the other two deals) without replacing them we might as well just take the nine point deduction because we will be down anyway.
To lose Parker, Upson AND Bellamy would be cruel. If Parker left and Zola were able to use the money I think one could go on with it. What I am missing is a clear statement by the board that they're not going to sell the best players. If Parker really leaves they should make clear that the club had to generate sum funds for the window and put a "not for sale" on Upson, Green and Bellamy.
It's all well and good saying that our clubs needs the money but when/if we sell Parker for £12m won't our club's value then drop by £12m? Any potential buyer is bound to point this out and offer BG £12m less as a result.
So BG is not necessarily making money by selling Parker, he is just securing the money. He is effectively pocketing £12m of the club's value in advance of the sale.
So I don't buy this 'we need the money' lark. It's more like 'we need an advanced payment'.
