Clarke Says to Give Hines Time

Steve Clarke says that West Ham need to protect Zavron Hines. After Hines' performance against Liverpool, when his pace completely outwitted Carragher, it was a surprise to see Hines dropped to the bench for the City game.

Steve Clarke however has hinted that West Ham will give Hines time to develop as a player. Clarke said,

"You have to look at the bigger picture with younger players - we have a duty to protect them. Zavon came off the bench against Manchester City and looked lively again. He will be involved at the weekend.

He has come from nowhere in a short space of time and we have to protect him rather than throw him in the first team and hope every game he is going to be fantastic."

Perhaps Zola and Clarke have plans to use Hines more as a late substitute in games, when his pace might be more effective against tiring defenders.
