Sidwell to West Ham

The Daily Mirror claims that Aston Villa's Steve Sidwell was at West Ham yesterday for a medical and is close to agreeing personal terms. The Mirror say that West Ham will pay a small sum up front, with extras on bonuses.

The Daily Mail say that West Ham are trying to sign Monaco striker Dieumerci Mbokani on a five month loan deal.

Ian Wright in The Sun argues that Avram Grant is not the man to keep West Ham in the Premier League. Wright argues that teams like playing at West Ham "because there's no chance West Ham are going to come out all fired up by a rocket from the manager."

Wright also argues that the fans have given up hope and there is now little atmosphere at the ground. Wright concludes that West Ham need "someone animated and able to deliver a few home truths. They need someone who can get ALL the players riled up, not just Scotty Parker."

Wright has a point. Upton Park has no atmosphere now,and although that has been the case for a number of years,Grant isn't helping. It is very difficult to picture Grant firing up the team- if we were midtable that wud be less of an issue. But in a relegation battle it is a huge issue. The players need someone who can inspire and motivate, and Grant has shown himself not capable of doing that . Doesn't make him a bad manager, but it does mean he is the wrong man for West Ham at this time

Sidwell and Keane says it all. We won't even be strong enough for the Championship next year with those two losers. Bet Beckham is the "third " one being looked for. I give up!!!

Sidwell?? Central midfield is just about the only area where we _don't_ need another player. Particularly not one who's less good than our current options!

With Behrami often injured and probably leaving in the window, and with Noble injured,we certainly do need a central midfielder. Sidwell is a better option than Kovac ,and can play every game unlike Behrami who manages one game a month

@ 4:54 pm, 'central midfield is da only area...another player'... ITS WRONG. We need a strong central midfielder, high skill, high workrate, good passing skill etc. to replace our current player including Noble, kovac, spector (?) etc etc.
