O'Neill May Never Play Again

The Telegraph report that Gary O'Neill has been told he only has a 50% chance of playing again after Nigel Reo-Coker's two footed challenge last weekend.

The Telegraph say that the ligament was ripped from O’Neil’s ankle in the challenge, which was not even given as a foul by the ref. The paper say that O'Neill is facing at least eight months out, if he recovers at all, and is now considering suing Reo-Coker.

Reo-Coker won the ball in the challenge, which Halsey obviously deemed fair. However Reo-Coker lunged in with his studs showing and I remember thinking at the time that it was a career threatening challenge and that the ex-West Ham player should have been shown a straight red.

O.Neill has worked extremely hard since he arrived, unlike some of his teammates. It is a travesty for him and the club.

As for Halsey ,he had a poor game, failing to award a penalty when Cole was knocked down in the box,and failing to spot Agbonlahor's shove on Gabbidon prior to his goal. It won't get point sback, but the club should consider making a complaint in writing about the ineptitude of Halsey's performance. How can the challenge by Coker be considered fair if the studs were up? The whole point of making it illegal to show studs was to prevent EXACTLY the type of incident that may cost O'Neill his career. I hope that O'Neill does sue Reo-Coker, and makes an example out of him. The only way that players will learn is if they lose hundreds of thousands of pounds for their reckless challenges.

The Premier League, yet again, has been found to be weak and wanting ,as has one of its officials. Such incidents ought to be subject to review AFTER the matches if the refereee was dumb enough to miss it at the time that it happened. And the penalty for showing studs shoul dnot only be a straight red, but carry a 6 match ban rather than the normal three. Then perhaps morons like Reo-Coker would take heed.

What happened to O'neill happens because of scumbag opponents, weak officials and the inept, braindead management of the Premier League who not only lack intelligence ,but are cowardly.

You don't like it Premier League? SHOVE IT . Because I will be sticking it up your prostates for decades until you learn
