West Ham 1 Wigan 1

West Ham dominated the first half without really looking like scoring. Noble was taken down by Kirlkland in the area in the 28th minute and should have been given a penalty but the ref ignored West Ham's appeals.

Bellamy actually put the ball in the back of the Wigan net in the 35th minute but was correctly ruled offside. Towards the end of the half Wigan carved out a couple of chances for themselves. Koumas's shot in the 42nd minute from 25 yards clipped the outside of the post as it went wide and a minute later Heskey put a good chance over the bar from a corner.

In the 60th minute Ashton was brought on for Zamora. However the opening goal came at the other end.

In the 77th minute Wigan won a throw deep in West Ham's half. Melchiot threw the ball long into the box, Heskey flicked the ball on and Scharner scored from 12 yards with an overhead kick.

West Ham almost hit back immediately when an onrushing Bowyer put a chance wide from a couple of yards. A minute later however Bowyer did get the equaliser when his shot from Boa Morte's cross beat Kirkland from 12 yards.

In the final few minutes West Ham piled on the pressure in a desperate attempt to get the winner but the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
