The Papers on West Ham Draw

The Daily Mail strangely echoed my post-match thoughts on the West Ham game, asking,

"When is a draw as good as a win for West Ham fans? When the man who scored 41 goals in 105 appearance for the club misses a penalty for the enemy in the final minute, that's when."

The Mail also point out that "Defoe will never be forgiven for his infamous transfer request in May 2003. He can be sure this miss will never be forgotten, either."

The Guardian felt that Robert Green's penalty save atoned for his earlier 'howler' and that West Ham looked dangerous on the break.

The Times are a little harsh on both sides I think in saying that "passion, commitment and controversy were present in spades, but beneath the blood and thunder there was much tactical confusion and precious little quality."

The BBC thought Sp@#s dominated the early stages but West Ham grew in confidence after their goal.
