West Ham & Sheffield Utd Come to a Settlement

This morning it has been confirmed that West Ham and Sheffield Utd have come to an agreement over the amount of compensation West Ham will pay to the 'we play our football in the courts', club from the north.

The exact figure remains undisclosed, but ranges from anywhere between £15-£25 million, depending on who you believe.

The clubs issued this joint statement,

"Both clubs are pleased to announce that a satisfactory settlement for compensation has been reached which brings the dispute between Sheffield United and West Ham United to an end. The tribunal will not be resuming."

The dispute may well have been brought to an end but Sheffield United have probably opened the floodgates now to enless litigation in football. Presumably any team now who are too useless to win on the pitch will try to win in the courts.

This dispute may be over but Sheffield United will forever now be known as the club that destroyed football.
