Gold Wants Zola to Stay at West Ham

West Ham co-owner David Gold says that he is happy for Gianfranco Zola to remain West Ham manager next season.

In the last couple of weeks the press have been widely reporting that Zola will be sacked and replaced at the end of this season. Gold does strangely hint at Zola taking a sabbatical, which may mean the speculation about a successor to Zola may not stop just yet.

"I would hope he stays. He has been through hell and back. It has been a very difficult season for him. He has had new owners, owners before who were not participating. Now he knows he is part of West Ham, whereas before he was isolated. So I hope that this moment of success we are enjoying will continue.

"I would have thought that he deserves another crack. But he’s also a man who might feel that it’s time for him to take a sabbatical. I don’t know. You would have to ask him. But I’m very optimistic that we can come together and go to the next step."

"At no time did I feel that there was any requirement for a change, for a number of reasons. I asked Franco after what was I think our fifth straight defeat, ‘Are you okay? Are you on board?’ You are always fearful that a manager may be finding it difficult. But he said he could keep us up. He’s kept his word and he’s done that. We couldn’t ask more."

I agree. A bit of stability is what we need. I think Zola is becoming a good manager, and could become a fantastic manager who would encourage the West Ham style of football we all love and miss. I'm looking forward to gossip and discussions on who we are going to buy with G&S's millions! I'm fed up with reading doom, gloom, departures and sackings!!

I agree one win and we are suddenly on the up!! has it escaped everyones attention that we have played possibly the worst football by some of the worst players (with a couple of exceptions)seen at upton park.
for gods sake how is changing nothing going to move us forward zola is a nice guy and was a fantastic player but let him learn his trade elseware we need someone to kick some arse get rid of the players who have not performed this season and bring in players who want to play for the club.

I am with Oliver. The bloke has seen a really tough season, and I am sure he is learning the trade. He has the squad behind him, which is more than most managers can say.

I can see no point in him leaving now. I was not up for him being the manager in the first instance, but there is even less sense in taking him on with no experience and as he starts to get some, watching him disappear.

Yes many player have not performed but many did not perform before he got there. On the 3p he had to work with he has done as good as he could have. He needs a few transfer windows to get sorted and build. We need to be patient.

Also more importantly I don't believe Gold. I think they were hoping that Zola would quit, meaning no severance pay. As he wont quit, it would cost too much to sack him and Clake and to employ someone else. Therefore to come out and support him is all they could do.
