Ferdinand Injured as West Ham Lose

Anton Ferdinand sustained a hamstring injury during Saturday's 2-1 loss to IFK Gothenburg. He limped off just 25 minutes into the game after pulling up sharply. Ferdinand, playing for the first time since undergoing a hernia operation at the end of last season, will undergo a scan on Sunday. Boss Alan Pardew said: "He's done some damage in there, so fingers crossed that it's not too serious."

Bobby Zamora gave the Hammers an early lead, but strikes from George Mourad and a last-minute effort from Marcus Berg earned Gothenburg the win. Trialist John Paintsil, who is expected to sign for the club later this week played in an experimental West Ham side in which Jimmy Walker, Yossi Benayoun and Marlon Harewood made their first start of the tour.

West Ham United: Walker; Paintsil, Ferdinand (Noble 25), Collins (Mears 75), Konchesky (Stokes 70); Benayoun (Ephraim 52), Mullins (Clarke 55), Fletcher, Reid; Zamora (Ashton 55), Harewood (Sheringham 62).
