West Ham won their friendly against the Gills with goals from Teddy Sheringham and Hayden Mullins.

Sheringham scored in the fourth minute when Gillingham failed to clear a Lee Bowyer free kick. West Ham doubled their lead in the 34th minute when Hayden Mullins headed in a Matthew Etherington corner.

Andrew Crofts got a late consolation for Gillingham, by which stage new signing Carlton Cole and Dean Ashton had replaced starting forwards Sheringham and Bobby Zamora.
