Upson Wanted at Upton Park

The Times say that West Ham have made a £4 million bid for Mathew Upson. However the paper claim that Birmingham have upped their valuation of the defender to £8 million. With Gabbidon and Collins out for awhile it seems that clubs know that West Ham are cash rich and desperate for defensive cover.

The Times also claim that West Ham have not given up hope of signing Ashley Young or Lauren. If West Ham can win a couple of league matches and move out of the relegation zone before the transfer window closes at the end of the month they believe they can tempt Young to Upton Park.

Lauren, The Times says, has turned down offers from Bolton and Newcastle United but is considering Portsmouth and West Ham or a move to Spain in the summer.
