West Ham 0 Arsenal 1

West Ham started reasonably well but Arsenal scored in the 12th minute, against the run of play, when Van Persie cut across Upson and beat him to a Hleb cross. Green got his hand to Van Persie's header but could only palm the ball into the net.

Arsenal has the better of the rest of the half with West Ham never really troubling Almunia.

For the second half Parker was replaced by Mullins. A minute into the second half Ferdinand pulled a hamstring and was replaced by Gabbidon.

West Ham finally came alive around the hour mark. In the 57th minute Ashton should have got the equaliser for West Ham when he met Lee Bowyer's cross but from 12 yards headed straight at Almunia. A minute later Ljungberg got the ball in the back of the net only for his goal to be disallowed for offside. A minute after that Senderos pushed Bowyer over in the area but no penalty was given.

With the game opening up both sides started to create more chances. In the 65th minute Ashton shot right footed from 25 yards wide and missed left by about a foot. In the end though West Ham didn't have enough creativity going forward and ended up with their second consecutive Premier League defeat.
