West Ham, Cole and Green Impress
The Independent believe Green enhanced his chances for England with 'a near-faultless display' against Portsmouth. West Ham had a 'well-organised defence' and 'were impressive on the counter-attack and had the best two chances.'
The Daily Telegraph say Green 'outshone' David James and were equally impressed by Alan Curbishley,
"If intelligent coaching were the criterion for appointing an England manager – which it isn't ... then Alan Curbishley could be our man."
The Daily Mail were impressed with Carlton Cole stating that "Sol Campbell and Sylvain Distin will testify to the bruising they got" at his hands. They feel Cole was almost rewarded for his hard work "with an impressive shot on the turn", the rebound of which Solano should have buried. Cole commented, "I'm exhausted."
The Times were also impressed by Cole who, "scored against Sunderland last week and impressed against Portsmouth on Saturday, hitting the bar and leading the line with effort and strength."
The Guardian say that "Robert Green put in a performance that strengthened his case to be England's new No1." and Cole "put in a mature performance against Portsmouth's robust central defensive partnership."
