West Ham Compensation Result in September

Sheffield United chairman Kevin McCabe, obviously not the most trustworthy of sources, has indicated that the arbitration between West Ham and the northern spoon worriers has not quite finished and that the result won't be heard until September,

"It's down to the panel to make their award which should be September. The formal arbitration hearing was concluded last month but there'll be one more day at the end of July for further oral submissions."

Exactly what can this panel "award"? The club has been thru various arbitration panels over the last 2 years. What authority does this panel actually have? And in the event of an unfavorable decision from our point of view, what right of appeal does WHU have?

Would we pay even a penny to Sheffield United without going to court in a long,drawn-out process?
