Zola to Try the Impossible
West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola says that he will be working with Carlton Cole to improve his shooting,
"Bellamy is playing very well and Cole is playing well too. But he needs to be more focused on scoring goals. He knows that. From Monday on I'll be working on his finishing every single day until he's fed up with it. He has to score more goals because it can change performances so much."
According to Wikipedia statistics Carlton Cole scores a goal every 6.33 league games for West Ham. His statistics for Chelsea were about the same I think. In way of comparison, Marlon Harewood scored every 3.02 games. Clearly Cole has never been a goal scorer and never will be.
I hate criticising West Ham players but I think Zola does now need to consider that all that work on Cole might be a waste of time and that there is another option - leaving him out of the starting eleven.

Zola is not very quick, is he? NOW he decided to actually work with Cole??? The previous games didn't show Zola that Cole cannot pass, cannot think, and cannot finish? Yes, nice first touch, but that's only good for 40th best striker in the Premier League. 30th best would have given west ham at least 5 more points.
Is there any evidence that goal poaching/finishing can actually be taught (at this level!!)??
owen was not a poacher to start with. he scored through explosive pace. he has learnt to get in the right place at the right time after loosing his pace through injuries.
Zola to the boy Cole. Right Carlton concentrate what you are holding is what we call a banjo , that black and white thing over there is a cow, try to hit the end that is not eating the grass with your banjo
Now i don't expect you to nail it first time Charlton, or in your case at all !!!!
