Stoke Make £12 million Bid for Cole

The Sun and The Mirror claim that Carlton Cole is a £12 million target for Stoke. This sounds like one of those moves by owners that they make in order to placate the fans for the purchase of some pony player.

When they bring in some donkey they can then say, "We tried to get the big players but couldn't attract them."

It would be kind of like West Ham claiming that they were trying to sign Henry and Joe Cole. Or am I being too cynical and too trusting that West Ham wouldn't sell Cole to Stoke?

The Mail claim Portsmouth defender Nadir Belhadj will turn down West Ham for a move to Qatar.

get rid. do the deal and get shot of him at that price. and use the money to buy someone young, hungry and ready to work every week . We did not need overpaid underperformers who fail to even to get into a mediocre England side with very little competition

he's been decent decent for us there can be no doubt about that but he aint worth the money he's on so i would reluctantly get shot of him for 12 million but if stoke dont offer him the 50000 a week he's on with us then he'll stay anyway so it could be a moot point

and who are we going to replace him with? With have diamanti who is hit and miss with his performances, got rid of france and ilan, we have mcarthy.... i wont even bother writing about him!!! ok, we Nouble, and in a few years he will be perfect, but he still needs time to mature. I cannot see anyone else who is near to what we need that would come to us!!! Cole who yes is overpaid, is the best of a bad bunch. He performed well last year and at the start of the campain, but after he got injured just was not the same player.

If we can get a decent replacement then yes great get rid, but at the moment, i cannot see that happening

Cole is a rare beast. A player who wants to stay at West Ham. He was excellent at the start of the season before he got injured and did not seem to get his form back when he came back. Perhaps with a good pre-season he will recover the touch and power that made him a handful. Do we really think if we got £12m for him, all that would find its way into the transfer pot?
