West Ham Trying to Spend Big
The Guardian are reporting that West Ham have made an £8 million bid for Reading's Shane Long. Long scored 28 goals in 60 appearances for Reading last season.
West Ham are also understood to have made an offer of £750,000 for Southampton winger Puncheon.
If that much money is really being offered by West Ham then I can't help feeling that the club must be close to selling Scott Parker.

Shane Long is worse than Carlton Cole. I know alot of you will disagree with me considering his goal scoring record. However, I GUARANTEE he will FLOP big stylee if he comes to WHU.

5 to 8 million is too much for a Championship player, especially one as unproven as Long. I agree that he is not the answer. If he was available for a small fee, then maybe it would be worth a shot. We're better off seeing if Sam can put a fire up Cole's rear rather than take chances on pricey/mediocre strikers.
8:35 - That is exactly what I mean. Id rather Cole and Piq lead the line tbh that Shane Long. (8 million? - Come on)
Be interesting to see what Formation Big S plays this year.
Got a feeling it will most likely be Cole and Nolan just behind tough..In a 4-5-1 that he plays.

Long is a top talent his work rate is second to none he doesnt belong in the same bracket as that lazy shite carlton cole and also he would probably fit in really well in a sam alardice team. Anyone who has actually followed Longs career would agree that the chap would be a top signing for us.
8:58 - Its Allardyce just for future reference.
I've not exactly followed his career so I am sure by you watching a few of his games your a big expert.
However, do you remember the start of last season when he couldnt score? He didnt look like an 8 million pound player then....I know all forwards go through bad spells but I think Long would be a player who would crumble under the pressure.
Therefore, my opinion is he would be a flop.

Fair enough it remains to be seen i suppose iv seen him in a good few games actually but no im not an expert im just offering opinion like everyone else. We put a 20 million price tag on Cole at the end of last season and to my mind at no point did he ever in his whole career look like a 20 million pound player so i dont really think you can judge a players worth by what he would fetch on the market. If Long was English and had even one cap over the last couple of years his value would be through the roof for example look at the price Liverpoo paid for Henderson its absurd.
Anyway i hope we get Long he could be talismanic in my opinion
20 million, you got to be joking. If we can get 4m for that lazy donkey I'd be happy...Long would be a definite improvement, just got to try to find someone willing to buy cole
