We Should Have Won

Sam Allardyce say that West Ham yesterday paid the price of poor finishing,

"From our point of view we've mastered the game, created numerous chances and today was one of those days when we were not clinical enough to punish the opposition and then we paid the ultimate price right at the very end."

"We've lost a game we really should have won. I told the players that you don't always get what you deserve but don't go and throw a game away, and that's what we've done."

I think that we desrved a point, but despite having a few decent chances ,i don't feel that we did enough to win it. For a start,Ilunga was sloppy in possession all game long, and it was bound to evntually cost us. Parker and Nolan did not impose themselves at all in the second half, which is inexcusable. We also did not shut Cardiff down well enough in midfield- there were times when they simply had too much time and space on the ball, which again,is inexcusable.

Had Ilunga's late error been his only one of the match ,it woul dbe easier to forgive, but gave the ball away cheaply many times. He is simply unfit to be a left back at this club. We need someone better and very quickly, even if it means playing an existing player out of position. Whatever Ilunga offers in attack is not worth his tendency to get caught out defensively at critical moments. It's ashame as some players really put in an excellent performance. But all it takes is one or two substandard performances and the whole team pays the price.
