Poor Defending and Poor Finishing

Sam Allardyce blamed poor defending and poor finishing for West Ham's loss to Southampton last night,

"It was disappointing to lose our unbeaten away record but even more disappointing to lose it off a set-play. We didn't really do anything in the first half although still had some chances. We conceded a soft goal from a situation we practice regularly. We are one of the biggest sides in the league but that didn't stop us going one-nil down.

"It is disappointing for me because we were so clinical on Saturday but were woefully short of being clinical today. Baldock got a chance in the six-yard box and should have scored that. Carew put a header wide when he should have worked their goalkeeper.

That's about 25% of the season gone and we shouldn't be too worried about being 2nd, but.......

When we come up against a reasonable well organised and motivated team , Cardiff, Ipswich, Ston and to a degree Millwall and Palace we don't half look ordinary. We have now got 2 more, Brighton and Leics.

No wonder BFS is looking worried!

Well Done Big Sam for being honest and not doing a Wenger and pretending the team have done marvelous. It shows a lot of character, now we need the team to show that as well
