West Ham 2 Roma 1

The kick off for this game was delayed because of the numbers who turned up.

Roma had the better of the first half, with Totti looking the best player on the pitch. However the goal when it came belonged to Ludovic Giuly who beat Green from eighteen yards. Llungberg was probably West Ham's best player on the pitch in the first half.

Ashton came on in the second half and the change seemed to throw the game West Ham's way. McCartney got West Ham's first in the 63rd minute with a header at the far post from a Llungberg corner.

Three minutes later Ashton himself got West Ham's second, with a wonderful step over to beat a defender on the edge of the box and then a cheeky shot between the keeper's legs.

West Ham United:
Green (Wright 45), Neill, McCartney, Ferdinand, Upson, Bowyer, Noble, Ljungberg, Boa Morte (Etherington 28), Bellamy, Zamora (Ashton 45).

Roma: Curci, Passetti, Panucci, Mexes, Tonetti, Kuffour, Esposito, Rossi, Aquilani, Taddei, Guily, Totti.
