West Ham Out of Cup

In a a pretty dour game West Ham had the chances to win the match but ultimately lost to an Elano goal.

The Hammers were good yet again at breaking up the game play of the opposition and Green in goal had very little to do. However West Ham again lacked creativity going forward. The most creative player on the day was probably Petrov and it was his quality that led to the goal. In the 70th minute he skinned Neil on the left wing before putting in a good cross that Bianchi headed against the post. Elano was the first to the rebound to head in the winner for City.

Up front for West Ham Ashton still looked a little flat footed but did have a couple of good chances to score. In the first half Boa Morte put an excellent ball into the five yard box and City just stood and watched as Ashton ran onto the ball, but his stretching shot at point blank range was straight at Hart. In the 45th minute Dunne misheaded a West Ham punt forward and Ashton was nearly put clean through but an out rushing Hart got to the ball first. The ball rebounded to Boa Morte but he hurried his shot and put the ball well wide.

gutted, absolutely gutted. we were the better team for the whole game and should have won. hopefully this display has highlighted our need for some creativity. there's no doubt in my mind that if petrov was is a west ham shirt tonight we would have romped home clear winners. i'd even contemplate welcoming yossi back after that.
