question of assists-

a few days ago you were trying to get some stats on assists. sadly, the EPL website is lacking in stats but if you go to espn they have a mountain of stats. HOWEVER, the one stat column with a bug in it is the assists column.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/scoreboard?league=all&cc=5739

if you scroll down to "English Premier League" and click on the "Expand" button next to the Liverpool vs WH, you see who has the most assists on the team: Carlton Cole.

i also suggest that you take a look at the squad stat page:

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/squad?id=371&cc=5739
what i find interesting is the "SH" shots vs."SG" shots on goal. this tells a woeful tale: WH is in need of a top class striker.

thanks dublin. in all honesty ,that was why i posed the question to kier about assists initially. i wasn t sure, but i had a feeling that cole wud have the most assists. that doesn t take away from kier s belief that cole shud score more, nor does it contradict what i think we all accept, which is that we desperately need a top class striker.

but i think it does show that despite cole s goal total being less than what we all want it to be,the man is contributing in a real way. he may not be scoring that many, but the goals we are scoring, though seem to be few and far between at the minute, generally involve him.

Cole has the same number of assists as Gerrard so he is in good company. I suspect Gerrard has scored more goals though :)

Are you sure that assists column has a bug? A column full of no assists for the whole team doesn't feel too wide of the mark.

lol Ed.

actually, i am not amused by what is not happening in this column and already sent a mail off to espn to try to get them to fix it.

for one thing, i am curious as to who could have the second most assists on the team...

it is so strange: although, WH didn't show up to last saturday's game, i am so psyched about tonight's.

i really hope they play to win.

fact that we beat them recently may help offset the loss of confidence coming from saturday s result. it won t be lost on the players that we haven t won there since 1963, so the chance to win at Anfield and do the double on them should provide a lot of motivation. experienced players like neill, ljungberg, upson and solano should have a point to prove- we live in hope...
