Avram's Championship Side

David Gold has defended Avram Grant's record at West Ham. In an interview with Sky Sports Gold clearly thinks that Grant should be given time to build his own team,

"It has to be remembered that, basically, Avram did inherit a Championship side because with the 35 points that we got last season that would normally get you relegated.

"Nine out of 10 times, 35 points would get you relegated. So in actual fact he inherited a Championship side.

"So it has been difficult for him. He is building, he is re-gilding and slowly you can see, with six players brought into the team last night (against Manchester United), the strength of the squad and things are starting to come together."

Again I find myself wanting the owners to shut up.

We were not a Championship team, 'in actual fact' they were the ones that got relagated.

From the starting line up last night Green, Tomkins, Upson, Spector, Faubert, Boa Morte, Kovac and Cole were in the 'Championship team'.

Of the players that have been brought in over the summer, that played last night, Obinna is the only one who has made a significant contribution (although Barrera looks promising)

In a nutshell the only difference between the 'Championship team' and the team that beat Man U 4-0 is Obinna.

Gold should stick to counting his money and paying off the club's debts.

ps. I agree that 'Diamanti was worth holding onto'. Daprella as well.

Had Diamanti been willing to help defend ,he wud have perhaps been worth holding on to . But his inability to track back cost us big time last season.

Piquionne has contributed and so has Jacobsen. Unfortunately Hitz never got to kick a ball. Obinna is not the only new addition of value. Agree that Daprela was a shame to lose- there are others who it wud have made more sense to sell rather than him.

As for the caliber of teh team last season, when Collins was sold ,that condemned us toa relegation battle. It was a very stupid decision, one of many by the previous owners, for which we are still paying the price today
