Semi-Final Striker Woes

Piquionne's sending off against Everton has left Avram Grant with a real head ache up front for the Carling Cup semi-final second leg. Grant says on the West Ham official site,

"Now like Victor Obinna, Frederic Piquionne is suspended for the semi-final at Birmingham City, while Carlton Cole is injured.

"I don't know if he'll be available because he's only got four days to get fit. At the moment, I'm down to Freddie Sears, Zavon Hines and Frank Nouble."

The People claim that West Ham are close to signing Demba Ba in a deal worth up to £5 million. They say because of Ba's knee problems, that saw him fail a medical at Stoke last week, West Ham will pay the fee in stages.

The Mail say Everton are also still in the race to sign Demba Ba who 'may not be fit to play until April'.

'At the moment, I'm down to Freddie Sears, Zavon Hines and Frank Nouble.' I'm pleased that McCarthy's name was not mentioned there, although not totally surprised has there has been media-talk of him going to QPR.

Keir, I'm glad you haven't spent time complaining about the referee. The rule should be changed but Piquionne got himself sent off and he is responsible for the consequences.

The main point for me is not that he was booked for running in to the crowd, but he was booked earlier for kicking another player. Players sometimes celebrate with the crowd and get booked but they don't get sent off because they didn't get themselves booked beforehand.

West Ham is supposed to be a decent club. I am appalled by the fact that we seem to have two strikers (following on from Obinna's display against Birmingham) who, at least in the heat of the moment, seem to think it's ok to kick opposing players. This is on top of the shocking lack of professionalism of leaving the team to cope with ten men and leaving us with a reduced squad when they get suspended.

Absolutely right. The rule may be dumb, but is the rule. If you disobey it ,you get booked, which on saturday resulted in a sending off and 2 dropped points.

It is an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE that West Ham players commit DUMB fouls resulting in bookings/red cards that leave the team down to ten men ,and short of players for the next matches.

This is PATHETIC BEHAVIOR. Totally inexcusable. And proof that Grant has no authority over this set of players. One after another after another keeps engaging in totally unprofessional behavior. Da Costa accused of assualt,Cole of drink driving and then these two idiots,Piquionne and Obinna.

End this farce now and start punishing these naffbags before they send us down. And then watch thousands of season ticket holders not renew,
