Eggy Loses UEFA Role

It has been widely reported that Michel Platini has been elected as Uefa's new president, ahead of Lennart Johansson. However not so widely reported is the news that West Ham chairman Eggert Magnusson has lost his bid to be re-elected to UEFA's executive committee.

Magnusson had decided to step down as president of the Icelandic FA following his successful takeover of West Ham but wanted to keep his seat on UEFA's ruling body. However, with UEFA delegates wanting to keep the executive committee for national association heads rather than club chairmen, Magnusson was voted out.
